Beth-yerah

Large tel on the southern shore of Lake Kinneret near the outlet of the Jordan River known as Khirbet Karak. Site of ancient Beth-yerah or Beth Ariah. The name Beth-yerah means “House of the Moon.” It does not appear in the Bible but excavations show the site dates from the Early Bronze Age.

Excavations have uncovered 16 levels of occupation from the Early Bronze Age. It was destroyed in the Middle Bronze Age and rebuilt during the Second Temple Period. In the Hellenistic Period it was……
