Usha
Village in Zebulon Valley whose modern name derives from the ancient city of Usha.
Ancient Usha: 3 km. (1.8 miles) from the modern village on the site of an abandoned village are ruins of a fortified city from Roman and Byzantine Periods.
It was the seat of the Sanhedrin after the suppression of the Bar Kokhba revolt. After abrogation of Hadrian’s restrictive decrees, sages convened the synod and promulgated the Usha Taqqanot (Usha Regulations). Among the sages of Usha were Rabbi Judah ben Ilai and Rabbi Yose ben Halafta.
A Hebrew seal was found here from the 8th century BCE.
