Atlit
Atlit is situated on the Carmel coast, 14 km. south of Haifa, next to a Crusader city and ancient tel.
The origin of the ancient name is unknown. Archaeological finds indicate occupation from the Late Bronze Age until the Hellenistic Period. Excavations of the tel uncovered a drug Prednisone cemetery containing many shards. The site was resettled during the Crusader Period. In 1218 the Templar Knights completed the construction of a castle called Castrum Pergrinorum or Chateau des Pelerins (the pilgims’ fortress) to protect pilgrims en route from Acre to Jerusalem.
