En-gedi
(Joshua 15:62)
Oasis on Dead Sea shore 17 km. north of Masada. En-gedi, fountain of the kid, is where the Shulamite watered her flocks and King Solomon sought her among the cascades of water, banana groves, rose beds and vineyards. Among the most beautiful oases in the Middle East.
En gedi is mentioned in Song of Songs (1:13-15): “My beloved is unto me as a cluster of camphire in the vineyards of En-gedi.” Near the 200 meter high waterfall is a stalactite cave, where David had his famed meeting with King Saul (I Samuel 24:1-17).
The adjacent kibbutz is named after the ancient settlement. To the west is the Ein Gedi nature reserve incorporating the springs of Nahal David and Nahal Arugot, observation point and antiquities.
