Elath (Eilat)

Port on Gulf of Eilat.
Ancient settlement mentioned several times in Bible as Eloth or Elath. Important during period of kingdoms of Judah and Israel. Solomon equipped a large navy at Ezion-geber, apparently near here. Because of its strategic position on a major trade and travel route, many vied to control Ezion-geber.
