Farata (Pirathon)

Arab village 10 km. southwest of Shechem. Believed to be the site of Biblical Pirathon, birthplace of the Judge Abdon (Judges 12:13) – in the land of Ephraim, and in the hill country of the Amalekites; and of Benaiah, one of David’s “mighty men” (II Samuel 23:30).

Shards indicate occupation in Iron Age; and from Roman to Ottoman Periods.
