Hephzibah and the Bet Alfa Synagogue

The kibbutz of Hephzibah in the Jezreel Valley at the foot of  Mount Gilboa; is the site of the 6th century CE Bet Alfa synagogue.

The name Hephzibah derives from a Biblical phrase; “You shall no more be termed Forsaken; neither shall your land any more be termed  Desolate: but you shall be called Hephzibah, and your land Beulah: for the LORD delights in you, and your land shall be married.” (Isaiah 62:4)
Bet Alfa synagogue: Within the kibbutz is the ancient 6th century CE synagogue that was unearthed in 1928. The highlight of the discovery of the synagogue is its richly colored mosaic floor. The synagogue was…….
