Hisham’s Palace (Khirbet el Mafjar)
Extensive remains of a winter palace built by the Umayyad Caliph Hisham in the 8th century, located half a mile northeast of Jericho.
Ruined in an earthquake in 747, shortly after its construction; it was never inhabited at all. Architectural design was that of a great courtyard with towers at the corners.
