Gibeon (Pool of Gibeon)

The site of the ancient Biblical city of Gibeon is on road from the Coastal Plain to Jerusalem through Beth-horon at the Arab village El Jib.

In the Bible: Gibeon is first mentioned in story of Joshua and Hivites (Joshua 9). In the Ayalon Valley, west of Gibeon, is where Joshua fought the battle with the five Amorite kings and he called upon the sun to stand still. “Then spake Joshua to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon.” (Joshua 10:12) Here the men of David and Saul fought a battle by the pool at Gibeon. “And Joab the son of Zeruiah, and the servants of David, went out , and met together by the pool of Gibeon: and they sat down, the one on the one side of the pool, and the other on the……
